The I AM Movement

The I AM Movement was the precursor to the Church Universal and Triumphant. It was founded in the 1930's by Guy Ballard. The leadership of the 'activity' passed on to Edna Ballard after Guy's death. Thehe material on the Mighty I AM is useful in providing a historical context in how the Church came to be and where it's belief system came from. It is also useful to compare & contrast the abuses that occurred in the I AM activity with those that occurred in the Church.

MIGHT I AM "FLAME" REVEALED AS NEON PRODUCT

LOS ANGELES, CALIF., --Jurors in the mail fraud conspiracy trial of ten I AM cult leaders finally got a look at the much talked of "Violet Consuming Flame", which testimony has shown figured prominently in the mystical proceedings of the movement. The "Flame", which supposedly cleansed the atmosphere of what I AM leaders called impure entities, appeared as a halo about a likeness of Christ in a small neon lighted box which a prosecution witness, John C. Coster, said sold for $50.

PHOTO SHOWS defense attorney Charles Carr explaining the workings of the "Flame" device. The "Flame" appears on the ground glass front of the box.

Letters from a friend of Donald Ballard. These letters shed some light on Guy & Edna's son Donald, as well as the unseemly grab for power and money after his parent's death.
